You can read this story in the Bible in Luke 15:11-32
A father had two sons whom he loved very much. One day, the younger son had an idea.
The younger son asked his father for his share of the family money. The father was sad, but he gave it to him.
The son took the money and traveled to a faraway land. He spent all his money on parties and having fun.
Soon, all his money was gone. He was so hungry he had to get a job feeding pigs, and he wished he could even eat the pigs' food.
He realized his mistake. He said, "I will go back to my father and say I have sinned. I am no longer worthy to be called your son."
While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with love. He ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.
The father told his servants, "Bring the best robe and put it on him! Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Let's have a party and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!"
Why was the father so happy to see his son, even after he made mistakes?
The father in the story shows us what God's love is like. It's a love that's so big, it welcomes us back no matter what. This is the same amazing love that Jesus showed when he died on the cross for us, so we can always be forgiven and be part of God's family.
